We Used To Be Friends

The saddest phrase, at least according to me, is “We used to be friends.”

I have lost all my friends since being diagnosed. I have gained many friends as well however through Facebook support groups. There are so many great support groups out there for almost anything you can imagine. They have helped me so much while I am dealing with all of this.

Every time someone asks me how this person is doing, I say “We used to be friends. We aren’t anymore.” But when I say that, they want an explanation and sometimes I don’t want to get into it.

Friends used to mean the world to me. I spent hours going places, watching movies and talking for hours. But now strangely, my Facebook support group friends and I are closer than my ‘real friends’ I had here before getting sick.

Now that I have come to understand that friends drift apart and get their own lives, losing my friends isn’t so hard.
